A DRIVE ALONG THE BEACH

DAY 47- 48

Went up to In Skip today (Mon) which is at Rainbow Beach.  Got out onto the beach and drove for about 30klm up the beach.  Then did a drive thru Cooloola National Park (4 wheel drive access only).  A bit rough going.  Then onto In Skip.  Nice relaxing day.  Today (Tues) just went for a drive around the different beaches here at the Sunshine Coast.

End of the day

ITS GETTING COLDER

DAY 44 & 45

Moved on  today to the Sunshine Coast.  Staying at Nossa River Caravan Park for a couple of days.  Quite busy here so will move on, on Sunday as Carol should be arriving.  When we got into the carvan park John knocked a car (only slightly, but that's all it needs to dent cars these days).  Anyway left a note for the owner letting him know where we were camped.  He got in touch with us and will get a price to fix he back light.

Saturday went to Eumundia Markets.  Always soooooo busy but a really great market.  Lots of different things to look at.   Sorry no photo's         I could give you anothe croc photo!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just in case you missed seeing them

STILL MORE TRAVELLING

Getting wood at Higher Ground Homestay

Calliope Rest Area

Calliope were once you would camp
Next couple of days have been mainly travelling.  Stopping at some great spots.  Tuesday night we stayed at a homestay.  Able to get some FRESH eggs,  then the next night we stayed at Calliope. (some real changes since the floods at Christmas)  we stayed there last year with Carol, Graham and Di.  Then yesterday arrived at Hervey Bay.  We were going to go out whale watching but unfortunately the Whale season doesn't start until mid July so we decided to move on.  Found anothe great free camping sight.  Petrie Mary River.

OFF TO MOUNT ISA

DAY 37 & 38

Mary Kathleen Uranium Pool
Arrived in Mt Isa around lunch time.  Booked into a caravan park which allowed me to get all the chores done (washing, washing floor of van, cleaned windows etc) also replenished food supply.  Had a look around town.  Saturday we headed off towards Longreach.  Stopped about 50klms out of Mount Isa to have a look at Mary Kathleen.  It was a Uranium mind, closed in the 80's.  Drove along a very rough dirt track until it got too rough so took the van off the car and left it in a clearing and continued just with the car.  When we got to where the Uranium pool was I couldn't believe the colour.  You can't swim in it or drink the water otherwise you are likely to glow in the dark.

ANOTHER DAY IN PARADISE

DAY 36

John having breakfast

John getting some exercise

End of another great day
Had a very easy day today.  Went into the town to have a look at the Drover's Museum.  It was very interesting.  Commoweal has only 310 residents but each year they have a Drover's Reunion and the town grows to around 2000.  Not sure how they cope as the town only has a garage, pub, police station and a shop.  Have really enjoyed our stay out in the sticks.

Plant Life

Last night came across a great campsite next to the river at a little place called Commoweal.  Its about 150klms before getting to Mt Isa.  Decided to stay a couple of days.  Actually if we had time I would spent a couple of weeks.  It is soooooooo tranquil.

TRAVELLING AGAIN

DAY 33 &34

The last couple of days have been travelling. On our way out stopped at Bitter Springs termal pool for a quick swim, then continued on. Stopping only for meals.  First night we stopped at a lovely free campsite, lots of wattle trees.

KATHERINE GORGE

DAY 32

This morning we went on a 3 gorge cruise at Katherine Gorge.  At the end of the third gorge there was this large swimming hole, unfortunaely for me that hadn't told us that there was a chance to go swimming so I didn't put my swimmers in.  Didn't matter for John he still went in.  The gorges were stunning.  Usually you can kayak in here but due to the heavy rain during the wet season you still weren't allowed to swim in the gorge itself or to kayak or canoe.  The trip however was certainly worth it.

OFF TO KATHERINE

DAY 31

Muya Waterfall

A little friend

Got an early start this morning stopping on the way at a much guarded spot.  The Muya Waterfall is not on any of the maps, but a local told us how to get there.  Definetly needed the 4 wheel drive. From there onto Katherine where we met up with Mary & Terry (friends from the Central Coast).  Went off for a swim at some Thermal Pools just out of Katherine.  Also met a little friend.
Just the right temperature for John, notice NO WETSUIT

DAY 29& 30

Moved on to Corinda / Yellow Waters.  We had been told by a number of people that the Yellow Water's Cruise was a must.  So we booked into the sunrise cruise.  We were told when we booked in we could do the sunset cruise for an extra $10 each so decided to do that as well.  I'm glad we did because the sunset cruise I think was the best.  (more animals)
